A Day's Work
It was two days of work...totally fun work. Through David Morris Photography, we have been styling cafe drinks for AMC Theaters. I love the people I get to work with. We laugh all day long and it is refreshing...so are the drinks we style.
I had that terrible cold on this job, so I stayed in the kitchen as much as I could and would run to the bathroom to cough and blow my nose. I tried so hard not to spread my germs. I think I was successful...Sarah didn't even catch it and we worked side by side.

Sick Days
On Christmas night, at 1 am, Greta woke up with Croup. We even called the emergency nurse at our Pediatrician's office who connected us with Children's Mercy Hospital to talk us through getting her calmed down and breathing steady. Poor girl couldn't catch her breath and was panicking. We held her in the bathroom with the shower steaming hot for 20 minutes and then took her to the icebox for 5. She still had a strider but was calm and ready to sleep. She slept between us, safe and sound. From this virus came a terrible snotty nose and deep chest congested cough, for a week. And then New Year's Eve, Jack came down with the same virus. He was sick and coughing and snotty for a week. And then it was my turn. I even had to go to the Dr. to get medicine for a sinus infection and an inhaler for bronchitis! HAVE MERCY! Let us be well, please, just one day this new year.
We have now blown our new and improved budget on Puffs with lotion and vitamins. And, I hope we have now paid our dues in the sick days department. Let us be well, already!

NYE
We went out to the ALoft Hotel and RA Sushi Bar. We were debaucherous. Emmy and Brigid watched Greta and Jack and I think they had a great time...until Jack threw up. Par for the course. I wasn't far behind him, actually. But, every once in a while, a mamma needs to do some dancing and some sake bombers. Happy New Year!

Something to Smile About
No cavities! We took the kids for their "first" dental appointment. Greta has been, but it has been a little while. (Bad Mommy). I have a confession...Remember when Greta took that horrible fall in August of 2009? She fell flat on her face without catching herself at Papa's. A week after the fall, her two front teeth turned dark. I was crushed for her and scared silly that she would need surgery - a dreaded root canal. We called a pediatric surgeon that had done a root canal on our dear friend, Henry. They told us they didn't even need to see Greta unless her gums looked swollen or infected. She never had any infection, and to my surprise, her teeth even lightened up a lot. But, I didn't take her to the dentist last year because I was scared to. I was scared she would have bad feelings about her teeth and not smile anymore. She is such a sensitive girl. And, if I were being totally honest, it was because of me. I am very anxious about dental visits. I really dislike them!
But, Greta and Jack are great brushers. Derek and I are always near to help and make sure they are getting the hard spots. We were diligent about them not eating candy until they were good brushers and still don't offer soda pop or gum.
How proud we are about their smiles! They are super happy about it! May they never have dental angst like their mamma...may it always be smiles!
Greta is even getting her 6 year molars in early! Maybe the tooth fairy will be visiting soon! Won't that be exciting? The kiddos teeth will be worth a lot!

Dune Buggy of Doom!
They are absolutely freaked out. This is definitely not what Santa had in mind. They like to sit in it in the living room better and pretend they are driving. I guess that is safer? It is such a cool ride. It goes forward and backward and flies through the yard. But, it also looks great in the living room. Merry Christmas!
Unwrapping
It was as if Christmas exploded in the living room! Santa had to put it all out in the dark because Miss Greta was singing in her room just steps away.
Greta got a fairy tent, and an ironing board (I- RON-ING board). She got her favorite Lalaloopies - Swirly Figure Eight, Rosy Bumps and Bruises, Peanut Big Top (and her little sister) and Ember Flicker Flame.
Jack got a dune buggy and he just stood there and looked at it with no emotion at all. Pfffffft.
But he did like his dino.
